Character Information
Name: Alessa Gillespie
Source Canon: Silent Hill (game)
Age: 14
Role In Canon: Catalyst for Crazy Shit and/or Plot Device
History: Here; I'm taking her from after the end of the first game.
Personality:
"Traumatized" sums Alessa up handily. Her short first lifetime consisted of repeated physical and emotional abuse, bullying, and finally torture at the hands of her own mother, all for the sake of a rather twisted religion. The young girl came out of this with phobias of adults, other children, dogs, insects, and, of course, fire. Fear is a huge part of her life, most likely permanently.
A mitigating factor, however, is the part of her that grew up with Harry Mason.
Cheryl had all the nurturing that Alessa never received, and their reunion gave Alessa an idea of what normal life might be like, as well as better-developed social skills. While she's still painfully shy and frightened, Alessa's other half has given her the capacity to grow out of her tormented shell.
Even before she received Cheryl's confidence, though, Alessa had a strong will deep down. Knowing it would lead to harsh punishment, she still refused to help her mother in the depraved rituals to summon God. Despite having almost no loved ones, she felt a sense of right and wrong, and didn't want to bring about a paradise that would lead to the harm of others, even others who'd hurt her before. She kept this determination through her own torture, and was even willing to destroy herself to prevent her mother's plans from coming to fruition. If she must, Alessa is willing to do whatever it takes to keep people safe and happy, even if she herself never can have safety or happiness.
Because of her reunion with her other half, Alessa's prone to confusion as she tries to integrate foreign memories, traits, and habits. She tends to think of Cheryl as a separate entity, though the two are no longer separate. This, combined with an already hesitant demeanor, makes conversing with her a confusing proposition at best; Alessa might switch perspectives mid-sentence as the Cheryl part of her grows stronger, or have to stop and figure out the order of things from two separate childhoods.
What Alessa wants most of all is for people in general to be happy. Secondarily, she longs for love and acceptance from others, something she never thought she could have until Cheryl's return. The existence of that part of her leads her to reach out, despite the terror that other people have posed to her over the years.
Abilities:
Reality Warping- Things around Alessa are a little less set in stone than usual. While the "exorcism" of the god inside her has reduced her powers, she can still affect things in her immediate personal space. This most often takes the form of cosmetic changes (burn marks or blood appearing on something), though she can also make things appear (objects, monsters, etc.) [In the Gardens, these effects will fade once Alessa leaves the area.]
Astral Projection- Alessa herself is a pile of horrible burns and atrophied muscle, not able to do very much on her own. However, she can gain a semblance of able-bodied life by projecting her soul from her body. This essentially creates a second body, and leaves her original one in a comatose state. While projected, Alessa can move around normally and interact with the physical world. She can't keep it up indefinitely, though, and will vanish if her real body awakens.
Shadow Shields- These take the form of a faintly visible "box" of shadows around Alessa. Normal physical attacks can't penetrate them, though they can be broken with the right magical powers.
Communication Hijack- Alessa's powers tend to futz up broadcasts in general-- radios and TVs go crazy with static when one of her projections is around, for example-- but she can also harness and alter broadcast signals, causing them to show whatever she wants, albeit with static interference.
